If this absurdly rich history isn't enough, Fractured encourages you to take selfies with all of South Park's denizens on your Coonstagram social media page. Of course, Coon, Mysterion, Professor Chaos and the other superhero personas are all directly referenced in older episodes in the series. Helping the Gay Fish's mother get to heaven also had me laughing aloud, which fans will recognize as a reference to Kanye West. For example, I found Yolanda's dress in the South Park police station, which is a reference to officer Harrison Yates' incredibly awkward undercover prostitute disguise. I'm not a big South Park fan, but I still caught a handful of references that brought a smile to my face. On top of all that, the town is rich with two decades worth of South Park Easter eggs to uncover. After a brief introduction to the game's combat and exploration elements, you find that Cartman and the gang have switched gears and are roleplaying as superheroes. Fractured picks up where The Stick of Truth ($12.62 at Amazon) leaves off, though you don't need to have played the latter to follow along. You play as The New Kid, a recent arrival to the chilly town of South Park, Colorado.

Fractured slip up once in a while the superhero-themed exploration elements utilize some highly tedious menu switching and quick time event (QTE) mechanics, and the game is surprisingly buggy. It's a refreshing RPG, if only because the gameplay, hard language, ridiculous scenarios, and show references keep you smiling until the end. Naturally, The Stick of Truth fans know exactly what they're getting themselves into: topical, highly satirical, and utterly absurd South Park comedy that's paired with a deep, grid-based RPG combat system. It isn't very often a game comes along that presents a setting and story as unapologetically risqué as South Park: The Fractured But Whole.
